01The problem

Recognising a keyword is only the start.

A job description can put Java and JavaScript a few lines apart. A CV might say Data Engineer, Data Scientist or ML Engineer. Familiar words can describe very different work.

Recruiters need enough context to understand the role and ask useful questions. I built RecruitLingo to connect those steps: what a term means, how to think about it, and what to ask next.

02The approach

Make the explanation useful on a real call.

  1. Explain it in everyday language.

Each glossary entry starts with a plain-English definition and an analogy. The point is to give the recruiter something they can understand and explain in their own words.

  2. Turn understanding into a question.

Entries include an interview question. Selected terms also include guidance on what a concrete answer sounds like and where to follow up.

  3. Bring the context together.

Role profiles and look-alike comparisons help untangle similar titles and terms. The JD and CV decoder brings that context into a screening brief, talent map and Boolean searches.

03An example

One term. A more useful conversation.

Here’s an entry from the glossary. Start with the meaning, then take the question into a screening conversation where it is relevant to the role.

From the glossary

Load Balancer

In plain English
A system that spreads incoming traffic across multiple servers so no single server gets overwhelmed.
Picture it this way
Like a host at a restaurant entrance directing each new party to whichever table's server has the lightest load.
A question to ask
How did your app handle user sessions once traffic was spread across multiple servers behind a load balancer?
What does a concrete answer sound like?

Describes a specific session-handling decision — sticky sessions, moving session state to Redis, a health-check misconfiguration that caused an outage — not just that a load balancer existed.

04The product

A tool you can use today.

Start with an unfamiliar term, compare two roles, or bring a whole job description. RecruitLingo is live in beta, with the glossary, decoder and interface continuing to develop.

RecruitLingo's homepage, headed “Tech jargon, explained for people who hire.”
The glossary is the starting point. Role profiles, comparisons and the decoder help put the terms in context.
